Getting Around Costa Rica
Driving
in Costa Rica
is perhaps one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences
you can have in this friendly country. Panoramic views
coupled with charming villages, coffee plantations, cattle
grazing farmlands and the natural beauty of lush vegetation,
abundant waterfalls, beautiful bridges and rushing rivers
lend a special touch to your driving experience. Driving
in Costa Rica is becoming a much more user-friendly experience.
Recent improvements in the country's road system allows
travelers to enjoy a comfortable ride and new road signs
are being placed throughout the country. This wave of
improvements is the result of the Ministry of Transportation's
newly established fund, named CONAVI. The country's 5000
miles of roadway will be preserved, developed and repaired
from past neglect. Over 700 million dollars has been invested
through the cooperation of international aid. Despite
the small size of the country, driving distances can sometimes
be deceiving. Daily Car rental rates and a sample of driving

that road and weather conditions will affect the actual
driving time.

Flying
within Costa Rica is a convenient way to get around.
Small commercial aircrafts are used and there is a 25 lb.
baggage allowance per person (excess baggage, space permitting, is accomodated
